The other night I had the weirdest dream, I was stuck in a
world that was made out of candy (Kind of like candy land, but darker). Usually
I only remember my dreams briefly for a couple minutes in the morning but for
some reason I could recall every detail of this dream. It wasn’t until a couple
days later I realized that it wasn’t so much a dream as it was déjà vu. When I
was younger computer games would come in cereal boxes if you bought the sugary
kind. I finally realized that this candy land I was picturing was from a
computer game I used to be obsessed with when I was a kid. The game was called
Pyjama Sam and you got to be a super hero, solving problems (probably
educational now that I think of it…) and exploring a junk food world that he
got sucked into AKA the kitchen cupboard.
I remember sitting at our really old family computer and being amazed by
the graphics of this game haha. Anyway this random case of nostalgia caused me
to go my own adventure trying to find where my once prized possessions had gotten
off to. I will admit to you readers, that yes, when I found my Pyjama Sam game
I tried it out, just to see if it still worked of course….. hahaha. The game
reminded me of all my other treasures that have become old “stuff” over the
years; I remember playing for hours with Polly Pockets that I bought with my
birthday money. I got a little bit of “Toy
Storyitis” after finding all this stuff.
I think nostalgia is a more powerful tool than people give it credit
for. I think it can inspire people because it often reminds people of who they
were before they were submerged into the ‘real world’. Showing how far we have
come and changed yet how some things never change. Nostalgia is just awesome.
Go find you old toys.
Toy storyitis: When I look at all my old toys, sometimes I imagine/wonder
if they miss me like Buzz and Woody missed Andy when he grew up…HAHA!
Dude, me and my sister have the biggest tub of Polly Pockets in my basement. I loved that stuff:) And I totally understand getting bitten by the Nostalgia-bug. If I'm bored, I'll go on youtube to try and find old tvshows (Magic School Bus, Arthur, etc) and watch a couple episodes. It never fails to make me smile:) What were some of your favourite shows back in the day?

hahaha right?! Yeah I was watching an episode of Art Attack the other day with kids I babysit, which was one of my all time favourite shows.
ReplyDeleteMy sisters had that Pyjama Sam game, me I had the original Jurassic Park Lost world game for the PS 1, still have the game but our PS 1 died years ago (luckily the PS 3 can still play these old games). As with Renee I used to watch the Magic School Bus and Arthur when I was younger with my sisters. My dad is also big into things from when he was younger. He has the entire series of a show called 'Rocket Robin Hood' on dvd, trust me it is one of the cheasiest shows you'll ever see but he thinks it's a classic. My whole familly has a collection of shows, movies, games and series from when we were younger. I have the antire Animaniacs series (I don't have Wakko's Wish though cause it isn't out yet) and I've been collecting The Wild Thornberrys show from Shout Factory, they bring out shows and movies that are no longer on the air or aren't on DVD and the major distribution companies won't publish.

Ha, when you said Toystoryitis I thought you ment that feeling you got at the end of the third movie when Andy went to college. It's always cool to look back at your old stuff because whether or not it has defined you to some extent.
