While
scrolling through my Facebook news feed a video popped
up with the caption "This Will Make You Happy," curious as
to what this video could be about, I clicked it and
was pleasantly surprised. Essentially what happened was the Soul Pancake team set up a ball
pit in the middle of a busy side walk. They hung a sign above it that said “Sit Down,
Make a Friend”. When the two strangers sit into the ball pit they are have to
pick up the conversation balls and read off the question to the other person.
This was so that the two people could start a conversation easily. The
conversation balls had stuff on them like, “Find a common interest,” letting
the two strangers find something to bond over. I thought this video was
inspirational because for one it made me happy, just like the caption said it
would, to see people being nice to one another and laughing. The other reason
this video struck me is because it gave people the opportunity to slow down for
a minute and connect with someone they might have never met before. All these
people were just out completing their daily routine, maybe on their way to work
or out running errands. It’s so easy for people to get caught up with all the
stuff on their to-do list, and never slow down to enjoy everything life has to
offer. We share the planet with 6.5 million other people, yet people are still
lonely, and I think that’s because sometimes we get way too caught up with
ourselves and forget to look around. That is what I took away from this video,
look around, you never know how you could impact someone else’s life.
Yeah I definately agree with you that people often go through life oblivious to whats around them. This video was refreshing in how it showed that people could take the time out of their day and do something spontaneous. I was surprized by how close two strangers could get in just a few minutes. It seems like sometimes people can be overly skeptical of others so its nice to see how people can take it upon themselves to open up so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI think your right, few people slow down to just chat with someone. I think too you get all these people who always text or talk on phones but don’t often talk face to face with anyone. It doesn’t take much to go up and just talk to someone. Chatting through a piece of metal and plastic is a lonesome way of communicating and is nothing like talking face to face. It isn’t hard to start chatting with someone especially if you have something in common. I go to a Psychologist once in a while for things and he believes I have Aspergers, a form of autism, so communicating and opening up is incredibly hard to do but whenever I go to a pet store, especially with my parrot in his travel cage I get talking with random people on our pets and it leaves me with a good feeling and I sometimes end up making people happy with the stories I have of my pets. My pets aren’t normal.Something to note your missing the word 'know' between never and how in the last sentence. This reminds me of the old saying 'you can't judge a book by its cover.' If people were to slow down and talk to others they would see more that they aren't alone in this world and everyone is equal. We all have flaws and we all have perks, no one's perfect.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love that you also related with this video. It can be hard for people make the first step in getting to know someone, a lot of it I think is a fear of judgement or rejection but it's nice to see people overcoming that, because it obviously is worth it.
